About TakeHome

TakeHome is an independent, free UK salary and tax toolkit built and maintained by Rana Usman Ahmad, a UK-based technology consultant. We are not accountants or financial advisers - the calculators apply the published HMRC and Scottish Government rules exactly, and every figure is traceable to an official source.

How figures are verified

Every rate and threshold is taken from gov.uk and gov.scot publications, cross-checked against independent calculators, and covered by an automated test suite with hand-computed golden values - including the personal allowance taper, Scottish bands and all student loan plans. The full rate card, our assumptions and the official sources are on the how we calculate page. Figures were last verified in August 2026.

Update policy

Tax years change every April. The site holds its rates in a single reviewed data file per tax year, and each new year's figures are verified against the official publications before they go live.
