Common questions

How is a pro-rata salary calculated?

Divide your weekly hours by the full-time weekly hours, then multiply by the full-time salary. For example, 22.5 hours against a 37.5-hour week is 60%, so a £35,000 full-time salary becomes £21,000 pro rata.

Is holiday entitlement also pro rata?

Yes. Statutory holiday of 5.6 weeks applies to part-time workers in proportion to the days or hours they work, and bank holidays are commonly included in the calculation.

Does part-time work change my tax rate?

No - the same 2026/27 tax bands and £12,570 personal allowance apply regardless of hours. A lower pro-rata salary simply uses less of each band, and below £12,570 you pay no income tax at all.
